Walter "Walt" K. Crowell, age 90, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Sept. 20th, 2017 at the Livingston Co. Center for Nursing in Mt. Morris.
Walt was born Sept. 1, 1927 in West Sparta, a son of the late Alfred & Etta (Stoner) Crowell. He was a member of the Class of 1944 at Dansville High School. He married Beverly; the daughter of Mildred & Neal Dillenbeck of Dansville on March 19, 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dansville. He worked as a farm laborer for Fred Hall; as a deliveryman for Vogt's Dairy and a school bus driver in Dansville before moving to Rochester, where he was employed as an electrician. In addition to his parents, Walt was also predeceased by a daughter, Darala Tobey; two grandsons, Matthew Lambiase & Brandon Crowell; his brother, Marion E. Crowell and two sisters, Betty Kimble & Doris Howe.
Walt had the unique experience of serving as the only male chaperone on a 22-day bus trip from Dansville to Cuernavaca, Mexico, of area Girl Scouts where they joined Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from eight other countries at Our Cabaña, a residential program center, one of four world centers owned by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. In his younger life, Walt was a popular square dance caller; calling with various western musical groups in Western New York.
Walt is survived by the mother of his children, Beverly (Martin) Crowell; daughters, Dawn (Pete) Nudo & Dani (Jim) Swartz; son, Dean (Cathy) Crowell; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Nancy (Bob) Prentice; several nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
The family will receive friends 12-3 pm, Sunday, October 8th, at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
