Robert M. Farr, age 87, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at the Livingston Co. CFNR in Mt. Morris.
Robert was born June 20, 1929 in Niagara Falls, a son of Gilbert & Gladys (Perrigo) Farr. He graduated from the Red Brick School in Lewiston, NY in 1947. He attended the University of Buffalo for one year before entering the US Air Force. He served four years, two of which were spent in Korea, ending his service with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Robert worked at Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls for six years as an electrical assembler after which he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration, where he was a radar maintenance technician at the Dansville facility for twenty-six years, retiring in 1985.
Robert enjoyed golf and once shot a hole-in-one at Keshequa Golf Course in Sonyea, where he was a member. He also enjoyed flying his Cessna 172 and was a member of the Dansville Pilots Assoc. He was also a member of the Aircraft Owners Assoc., the Cessna Pilots Assoc., the Eastern Experimental Aircraft Assoc., the American Automobile Assoc., the United State Golf Assoc., the Daniel Goho American Legion Post in Dansville, the Dansville Presbyterian Church, where he served two sessions as a trustee; he also was a former member, secretary & treasurer of Elisha Acres Golf Course in Webster Crossing for many years.
Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce; sons, Alan (Christine) Farr, Thomas (Paula) Farr & Gilbert (Amy) Farr; three grandchildren, Patrick, Elizabeth & Timothy Farr; six step-grandchildren, Katie, Kelli, Kurt & Annette Noykos, and Carrie & Robert Mendenhall; two step-great grandchildren, Garrett Thomas Mendenhall and his sister Maci Kay; Robert's sister, Carol (James) Stuart; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Richard & Beverly Harbeck, Evelyn Harbeck, June Adams & Elizabeth Farr; several nieces, nephews & cousins. Robert was also predeceased by his brother, Gerald Farr.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday and 10-11 am Wednesday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday. Burial with full military honors will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery West, 6783 Moose Rd., Wayland, NY 14572.
