Mary Ann (Ciccarelli) McGavisk, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at the Vincent House (Comfort Care) in Wayland, NY.
Mary Ann was born Oct. 24, 1937 in Bradford, PA, daughter of Vincent & Margaret (Palumbo) Ciccarelli. She was a 1955 graduate of Bradford High School. Upon high school graduation, Mary Ann worked at Dresser Manufacturing in Bradford. She married Vincent J. McGavisk, Sr., who survives, on Oct. 14, 1961. After their wedding, Mary Ann and Vincent lived in Nesconset, Long Island, Dansville, and East Aurora, NY. In 1968, they chose to come back to Dansville to live, work, and raise their family.
Over the years, Mary Ann was employed at St. Mary's School (Dansville) as a preschool Teacher's Aide and at St. Mary's Church (Dansville) as a Religious Education Secretary. However, her true calling was caring for her husband and five children at home. Mary Ann was a devoted wife and selfless mother who exemplified all that is good. She was an exceptional role model for her children. She was a kind, spiritual, and loving soul who modeled what love, marriage, and family is all about. Mary Ann was a devout Catholic who taught her family the power of prayer. She was a parishioner, a Eucharistic Minister, and member of many prayer groups at St. Mary's Church of the Holy Family Catholic Community.
Mary Ann enjoyed conversations while sitting on her front porch and setting up lemonade stands with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed making meals using fresh vegetables from her husband's garden, as well as spaghetti sauce and Italian meatballs that no restaurant could compete with. She attended her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, plays, recitals, graduations, her own high school reunions, and the annual Italian festival in her hometown. She loved dancing with her husband in the living room while listening to their favorite music. They were even known to dance in Burger King, exemplifying the love they have for each other and their desire for making spontaneous memories whenever possible. Mary Ann also enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, participating in Super Bowl pools and picking winners in the Kentucky Derby. She kept her mind active with knitting, jigsaw puzzles, word games, and crossword puzzles.
She enjoyed lunches out with her friends and traveling with her husband, Vincent. They traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC, to spend time with their grandchildren. Other trips included one to Sante Fe, NM, where they visited the Loretto Chapel and the miraculous staircase. They also visited the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, and the National Center for Padre Pio in Barto, PA. They made numerous pilgrimages to St. Anne's Cathedral in Quebec, ON, Canada. They would make an event out of day trips to doctors' appointments by shopping together, dining out, and visiting family.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was also predeceased by a son, Vincent J. McGavisk, Jr. and a sister, Betty Ann Ciccarelli (infant).
