Donald E. Towner

Donald E. Towner, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 1, 2019, at Noyes Memorial Hospital, following a short illness, at the age of 101.

Don was a 4lb. premature baby; born at home Sept 7, 1917 to Earl & Lovina (Whiting) Towner. He was married to Louise C. Towner for 72 years, she predeceased him in 2012. Don & Louise owned and operated a small family dairy farm in Cohocton for many years with their son, Ronald. He was also employed as a foreman for Polly-O Dairy in Cohocton for many years.

Don & Louise were regulars at local restaurants, enjoying the company of their many friends. They made friends wherever they roamed. Don & Louise made the "City" of Wallace their home throughout their married life. As the Towner Patriarch, Don was always eager to offer help to his family and friends. He processed a natural ability to invent solutions to problems. As his family knows, there was nothing he couldn't accomplish with the aid of duct tape, WD 40 and black electrical tape! He was constantly "inventing" ways to make work successful. He continued to have a strong work ethic, even after retiring, always busy, never idle. Don loved mowing his lawn with his John Deer mower. His grass never had a chance to grow over an inch. A remarkable man who lived independently until his passing.

Don was a walking history book, with the firsthand knowledge of events which took place over his entire life time of 101+ yrs. He loved sharing stories with everyone. He told of the Hobos on Erie train line going through the backside of his parent's farm, and he knew the Hobos by name. There was a wooden water tower located on his farm to fill the steam engines. He'd laugh when people would talk of new cars and add that he owned a Model-A Ford. He remembered every event and every person he ever met and could always add a personal story about them. When questioned about his longevity, he'd laugh and say "I don't know, I just keep going!"

In addition to his parents, and his wife, he was also predeceased by his brother, Rodney and sister in law Wilma.

Don is survived by his son, Ronnie (Jane) Towner; his grandchildren, Rick (Christine) Towner, Ronda (Steve) Sick and Ryan (Meredith) Towner; his great-grandchildren, Scott & Samantha Towner, Brianna and Bradley Sick, and Dylan Towner, also his special Grand-pup, "Princess"; as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Per Don's wishes, there will be a private viewing and service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland.
