Obituary of Stephen Beecher

Dr. Stephen C. Beecher, age 63, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Stephen was born April 15, 1954 in Dansville, a son of the late Hugh & Doris (Lemen) Beecher. He was a 1972 graduate of Dansville Central School; he was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1973 to 1979 and received the rank of E-6, Electricians Mate 1st Class; after his honorable discharge from the service he continued his education and received his B.A. in Physics from SUNY Geneseo in 1983; he then attended and received his PhD. In Physics at the University of Delaware in 1990. His teaching career started in 1982 at SUNY Geneseo in the Physics Dept., then at the University of Delaware, Physics Dept. from 1983-1990, recitation classes and laboratories for Physical science & general science courses; he then taught at Dansville Central School in the Science Dept. from 1995-1996; then at SUNY Geneseo as an Adjunct Professor from 1996 to 1997 in the Physics & Astronomy Dept.; then at SUNY Alfred as an Adjunct Professor from 1998 to 2000 in the Mathematics & Physics Dept., and most recently Nazareth College as Asst. Professor of Physics from 2000 to present.

Stephen was a member of the American Assoc. of Physics Teachers & the American Physical Society. Stephen was published many times in many physics, mathematic & science journals; as well as providing many presentations over his long and distinguished career.

Stephen is survived by his siblings, Paul (Jennifer) Beecher, James (Beverly) Beecher, Jean (David) Burley, Douglas Beecher, Lorraine (David) Hellbusch & Mary Seeley; 6 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great nieces & 8 great nephews.

Friends may call 4-7 pm Wednesday at the Chamberlin – Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am, Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elizabeth St., Dansville, followed by burial with full military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville.
