Evelyn F. Kemp, age 99, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2018 at her home.
Evelyn was born September 4, 1918 in West Sparta, a daughter of the late William J. & Margaret (McLane) Forsythe. She married Joel Cromer Kemp on June 29, 1938; he predeceased her on October 27, 1982. In addition to her parents, & husband, Evelyn was also predeceased by a daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" (Kemp) Cooper on Feb. 16, 2011; her son-in-law, Gene E. Cooper on April 28, 2011; her brothers, Robert W. Forsythe & Carl A. Forsythe; her sister, Helen E. (Forsythe) Hartman; nephews, William R. Forsythe & Rev. Roger D. Kemp; niece, Stephanie (Kemp) McGraw and grandson, David Drumm.
A graduate of Dansville Central School, she was employed by Maloney Nursery, F. A. Owen, Dansville Auto Parts (surviving the truck crash of Jan. 1961 in which her cousin, Richard Reilly was seriously injured), Nicholas H. Noyes Hospital on Main St., and its current location in the business office and as a Title Clerk for Expressway Auto Auction for many years.
She was the oldest member of the West Sparta United Methodist Church, a past treasurer of the United Methodist Women, and a past secretary of the church trustees and volunteered on several projects within the church.
She was a junior member of the First Chapter of the American Red Cross.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Howard) Perry; granddaughters, Joellen (Frank) McDougal, Kimberly Drumm and Kristina (Brian) Cornbau; grandson, Gene Andrew Cooper; great-granddaughters, Alexandria Drumm & Emily Catherine Cooper; great-grandsons, Airman Eli Cornbau & Senior Airman Travis Cornbau; nieces, Shirley (Richard) Tracy, Dolores (Tim) Pendergast, Lelah Andrus & Kathleen Kemp; nephews, Larry (Deb) Hartman, Denny (Donna) Hartman, Albert (Veronica) Litteer, Carey (Cynthia) Litteer & Joel (Mary Anne) Kemp; dear cousin, Margo Reilly; special "daughters", Karen Caldwell & Rhonda Leonard; several great & great-great nieces, nephews & cousins.
Friends may call 4-6 pm, Saturday July 7th at the Chamberlin – Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Sunday, July 8th at the West Sparta United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, W. Sparta.
