Obituary of Martha A. Lovett

Martha A. (Herrick) Lovett passed away peacefully on Saturday October 13, 2018 at the Naples Hospeace House surrounded by family after a long illness.

She was born on April 29, 1955 to the late Warren & Eleanor (Fischette) Herrick in Buffalo NY. Martha was president of the Geneva High School graduating class of 1973 in Geneva NY. In 1980, she moved to Washington D.C. where she started what would subsequently be a 20-year career as a meetings and special events coordinator. Martha became a well-known and respected conference and event planner and got the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and the Far East organizing high-level conferences, conventions, trade shows and events. She was recognized as an expert in her field by various professional associations.

In 1993, Martha married her best and forever friend, Charles Edward Lovett II, who survives. Two years later, they left the Washington D.C. area and relocated to Naples NY, where she resided at the time of her death.

Following the death of her mother, who was under the care of Ontario Yates Hospice, Martha became determined to open a hospice home in Naples. She sought the counsel of local business people and, after working tirelessly for 5 years, Hospeace House opened as the second state certified hospice home in all of New York State. As a co-founder of Hospeace House, Martha considered this one of her greatest achievements of her lifetime.

In addition to her loving husband, Ed, Martha is also survived by a brother, Phillip (Pat) Herrick; sisters, Elizabeth (Michael) Prince, Catherine (Jonathan Anner) Herrick, & Laurie (Dan Zuckergood) Herrick; sisters-in-law, Ruth Lusby & Kathleen Osterhout. Martha is also survived by nieces Amy (Jim) Rada, Sherry (Bob Cross) Atkinson, Meredith (Peg Buckley) Prince, Mackenzie (Mike Lee) Prince & Emma Goldman as well as nephews Tom Atkinson, Brian Herrick, and Kevin Herrick in addition to many cousins and great nieces & nephews. She left behind her sweetest companion, Josie as well.

Martha was predeceased by her parents; by her in-laws, Charles & Ruth Lovett; brother-in-law, Dene Lusby; best friend, Becky Grove Conard; and her faithful companions, Elvis & Harley.

Per Martha's wishes, she will be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 17th 2018 from 1-4 at the Parish Hill Barn, 5325 State Route 245, Naples NY 14512.
