Obituary of Jesse A. Cheshier

Jess A. Cheshier, age 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.

ess was born October 10, 1923 in Newport, Arkansas; a son of Walter & Pearl (Woody) Cheshier. He was a retired Freight Agent for Conrail (formerly Erie-Lackawanna Railroad). He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1943-1946. He married Evelyn Canfield on July 15, 1950; she survives. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Mildred Warden; and two brothers, James Cheshier & C R Cheshier.

Jess attended the Wayland United Methodist Church; was a charter member of the Wayland Lions Club and was a member of the Theodore VanTassel American Legion Post #402 in Wayland.

Jess enjoyed golfing, traveling. Railroad memorabilia and he was a former Little League coach.

Jess is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn; his sons, Gregory Cheshier & Barry (JoAnn) Cheshier; 1 granddaughter, Danyelle (Tom) Westbrook; 2 great-grandsons, Andrew & Ryan Westbrook; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Friends may call 4-7 pm Friday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland. Funeral services will be held 1 pm Saturday at the Wayland United Methodist Church, (Corner of N. Lackawanna & East Ave.) Wayland, NY. Burial with full military honors will be held in the Village Cemetery, Wayland.
