Donald W. Wolfanger, age 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at the Vincent House in Wayland.
Don was born June 20, 1929 in Springwater, a son of George & Helen (Schwingle) Wolfanger. Don was a dedicated employee. He worked for Griffith Oil (Previously VanScoter & Son)and W.W.Capron's in Wayland. He enjoyed caring for his many wonderful customers as he delivered oil & coal to keep them warm. Before that, he worked for Lucient Hill Potatoes and was the last Master Weaver to leave the Wayland Silk Mill when it closed. He was the widower of Emma (Rook) Wolfanger, who predeceased him in 2003 after 53 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by 2 daughters, Connie Payne & darling baby girl Roxie Dianne Wolfanger.
Don was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees and volunteered at church bar-b-ques and suppers, as well as lending a hand as handyman for repairs as needed. He was a previous board member of the Village Cemetery Assoc. in Wayland for over 50 years, and he loving cared for the grounds for many of those years. He and his special friend, Kate Fleishman, volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteers Program in the Information Booth, and many other activities in Bath.
He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, and generally having fun with family & friends
Don is survived by 4 daughters, Christine (Donald) Applebee, Beverly (Bill) Dunning, Randa (Austin) Inscho & Valerie (Wayne) Stephens; 1 son, Harold (Amy) Andrews; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held 11 am, Wednesday.
