Mary Ellen Butterfield, age 76, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at her home.
Mary Ellen was born May 5, 1942 in Wayland, a daughter of Jesse F. & Mary (Allen) Rhodes. She married Frederick Butterfield on August 13, 1966; he predeceased her on February 21, 2009 after 42 years of marriage. Mary Ellen and Fred owned and operated the Butterfield Country Greenery in Wayland. She formerly worked at Westinghouse & Stone Conveyor. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by a half-brother, Murray James Woodruff.
Mary Ellen was an Election Inspector in Springwater for over 20 years; she loved the fact she was the oldest inspector and looked forward to seeing the Springwater community & the gossip.
She enjoyed growing her plants by seed and visiting with her greenhouse customers. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, plastic canvas, softball games and community plays to watch her grandkids. She loved Facebook and was proud that she could maneuver around the sight and help lost animals. She enjoyed searching the internet for new recipes and loved her Facebook friends. She also loved knowing that her grandkids graduated from college; and she enjoyed riding around during Christmas looking at the lights and decorations. But, most of all she loved her family and enjoyed every minute she spent with them.
Mary Ellen is survived by her daughter, Bambi (Mark) Weber and grandchildren, Chase & MacKenzie Weber; her son, Eric Butterfield and his family; her sister, Irene Harrington; brother-in-law, Sam Lazaroff; nephews, Christopher (Penni) Harrington, Jim (Liz) Woodruff & David (Gina) Woodruff; nieces, Joan Anthony, Rhonda Woodruff & Melanie (George) McAulay; many great-nieces, great-nephews & cousins.
