Douglas Spencer Little, age 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Vincent House in Wayland after an illness.
Doug was born April 1, 1933 in Rochester NY; a son of David and Anna (Spencer) Little. He graduated from Livonia High School and Ithaca College with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. He served in the United States Army, from 1952 to 1954, with the US Army Band in Puerto Rico, receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. He married Mary Ellen Rishar on July 29, 1961; she predeceased him in Jan 2018. He taught Music at Wayland Central School for over twenty years and led the marching band in many parades and concerts. He then worked for Kodak at the Elmgrove Plant in Rochester, retiring in 1991. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his son, David in 1990 and two dear friends, Marie and Gene Moore.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and in his younger years he was a member of the Tri County Snowmobile Club.
While living on Loon Lake for years, he enjoyed boating and teaching his children to water ski. He liked to watch the Buffalo Bills and NY Yankees with his wife. He enjoyed antiquing and airshows, but most of all he lived spending time with his family, and always loved to hear about his grandchildren's accomplishments. He enjoyed the finer things in life, dining out, especially to the Mt. View Inn in Atlanta, where "his girls" would fix his Manhattan drinks as soon as he walked in. He liked seeing his past students and would still be able to identify them by the instrument they played in high school.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Kimberly and his son-in-law, Robby of Atlanta; 3 granddaughters, Stephanie Little of Virginia, Meaghann (Nick) Snyder and Emily Anger all of Atlanta; 3 great grandchildren, Kaylee Little, Brayden and Kyle Snyder; a step-great grandson, Evan Snyder; and two chosen grandchildren, Russell Weidman and Megan Driesbach.
Friends may call from 12pm-2pm on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at 2pm. A graveside service will be held for Doug at 1pm on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the Bath National Cemetery.
