Obituary of Celeste Stanhope Wiley
Celeste Stanhope Wiley passed away at home on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. She was 72. Celeste was born on July 19, 1947 in New York City to the late Russel & Jean (Kennedy) Stanhope. She was raised and spent a large portion of her life in Connecticut. Celeste later moved to the Virgin Islands, specifically St. Croix and Tortola, where her second daughter was born. While living in the Islands, Celeste opened her first artisan store called, "The Stalking Lion" selling all kinds of handcrafted items. It is apparent that Celeste loved to travel and would regularly talk about a three week European trip she took with her eldest daughter; together they were able to explore Yugoslavia, Israel, and Greece. Celeste eventually moved to Naples and owned and operated the Vagabond Inn; she proudly did so from the mid-1980s until the early 2000s when she decided it was time to retire. Celeste had an eye for beautiful art pieces and ran an art gallery within the Inn selling American craft & jewelry and making some of her own jewelry as well. Celeste is survived by her daughters: Michaela "Mica" Williams & Elizabeth Hottinger; her grandchildren: Cameron Williams and Randi & Francis Hottinger; a sister: Michelle Sparks of CT; her special animal friends: Mambo & Floozie; and many nieces & friends. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 16th 2019 at 11am at the Baird-Moore Funeral Home, 154 S. Main Street, Naples.
