Obituary of Gerald Lalonde
Gerald (Jerry) Paul Lalonde, 75, died Monday, November 11th, at Hospeace House in Naples. He leaves his wife of 31 years, Debi, his beloved daughters Kimberley Voigtschild (William Hess), Erin Gentner (Jeff Gentner) and grandsons Nathan, Eli, Jeremy, Luke, Ethan and Owen along with his sister Betty Coleman.
Jerry was born in Rome, NY, lived in Maine and Rochester, but most loved his life in Naples. He served in the United States Air Force and was proud to have worked on the SR-71 'Blackbird' during the Vietnam era. Jerry worked in the field of industrial automation as an Electrical Engineer for 22 years before enjoying a busy and satisfying ten-year retirement.
Jerry loved his community and volunteered for the Bristol Valley Playhouse, Rotary, the Naples Library during their renovation, the Robotics Club at Naples High School , along with many other community projects that needed help.
He was an active member of the American Red Cross, serving on the Disaster Area Team since 2010 and deploying nationally for Hurricanes Irene, Sandy, Harvey, the West Virginia floods, and Cobleskill. He volunteered for the American Red Cross local blood drives and served as a Disaster Services Coordinator for Ontario County for many years. He never begrudged being called in the middle of the night to help victims of home fires and floods. He drove the ambulance for the Naples Ambulance Squad until health prevented but remained active in the organization until his death. He has donated his body to the U of R medical research program to further study Cholangiocarcinoma and to help educate new physicians.
Jerry had a passion for photography and loved to travel with his family and friends particularly our cousins Jeff and Lonna. He loved his dog Hattie and hiked with her every day. Jerry enjoyed gardening and making his home a warm, welcoming place to be. A loved husband, father, and grandfather was taken from us too fast and too soon. He will be missed beyond words can express.
Donations in lieu of flowers would be appreciated to his loved American Red Cross, Naples Ambulance Squad, and Hospeace House.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Jerry's Life on Saturday November 23 from 10-1 at the Naples VFW on Route 21 in Naples.
