Elsie Fox

Obituary of Elsie M. Fox

Elsie Mae Fox, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Naples NY on September 4, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Her life began in September of 1947, in unison with twin sister and lifelong friend Alta, to parents Bert and Alva Little. Shortly thereafter, foster care was provided by Bill and Francis Stockton with an untraceable amount of foster siblings for whom she also cared. Several of whom she maintained caring relations with over the course of life, including Mary, Virginia, Gail, Janet, Lisa, Pat and Wilma - (respectfully, now both living and deceased). Please forgive any unintended omission. Shortly after graduating from Naples High School, Elsie married the love of her life Sterling (Peachy) Fox on July 23, 1966. She had two sons, Russell and Wade. They were the center of her universe. Early on, Elsie began her life's work investing a majority of her time at the local Naples' diners, supermarket, volunteer ambulance squad, ladies' VFW auxiliary and Canandaigua VA; collecting cherished friends and an abundance of stories to happily share along the way. Celebrating family and friends' birthdays and holidays, as well as crocheting beautiful blankets for loved ones, were among her dearest memories. She loved animals, and also enjoyed camping, gardening, ceramics and motorcycle rides with her husband - eagerly participating in the Memorial Day parade most years. Over time, and as a direct result of her experience in foster care, Elsie was determined to become a strong, generous and tireless community advocate. No matter the challenge presented, each day she took action to care for humans in need. Providing a voice and a clean, safe, comfortable space for all who entered the Fox Family Care Home - where she directed mental health care services for live-in clients alongside her husband in collaboration with countless vital community health care service and respite providers via Elmira Psychiatric Center and the New York State Office of Mental Health, for nearly half a century. In short, Elsie's strong caring spirit had a profound effect on many lives - she loved fiercely, was loved by just as many and will be missed dearly. May her life serve as a shining example of how to make the world better by caring for one another in good times and bad regardless of origin. In addition to her husband, Elsie is immediately survived by sister, Alta (Paul) Jennings; sons: Russell (Sue) and Wade (Melissa); grandchildren: Amanda, Jed, Madeleine, Kirstin, Felicity, Lily and Sam; and great grandson Jaxon (soon to join the family); as well as many beloved relations, friends and kindred spirits. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Elsie's memory to the Naples Hospeace House (PO Box 343, Naples NY 14512) or Naples Ambulance (199 N. Main St., Naples NY 14512). A celebration of life will be announced by the family at a later date.
