Marlene Wood

Obituary of Marlene J. Wood

Prattsburgh Marlene J. Wood, age 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Marlene was born on October 28, 1933 in Elmira to the late Clayton & Helen (Kelso) Thompson. In addition to her parents, Marlene was predeceased by her devoted husband, Howard in 2006; her brothers: Robert and Clayton; and great-grandson, Justin. She is survived by her loving children: Carol Ann Peterson, Howard (Chris) Wood, Warren (Helen) Wood, Kathleen (Stanley) Shay, David (Kitt) Wood, Elaine Fox, Alan Wood, and Marlene (Dan) Johnson; brothers: James "Smiley" Thompson, Gary (Marge) Thompson, William (Linda) Thompson; sister: Loretta Draper; 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and many, many nieces, nephews cousins & friends. The family is eternally grateful to their youngest sister, Marlene, and her husband, Dan, who have dedicated the past nearly three years caring for "Mom," allowing her to remain in the warmth and comfort of her own home until her death. The family wishes to extend personal thanks to special friend, Tracey Hubbard, for her love and support. Marlene had a heart of pure gold with nary a thought for herself; there was not a thing she would not do for family or friends alike. Marlene selflessly took care of her own mother, who suffered with ALS; she fought fearlessly for her son, Alan, after his traumatic brain injury in 1992 to get him the best care possible, in addition to caring for him in her home for several years while caring for her ailing husband at the same time. She had an energy that few could compete with, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to her. Even in her past few declining years, nothing could light her up like the great-grandchildren visiting; they brought out some silliness in her which was an amazing thing to see. Marlene had great faith in Jehovah God and his promise of the resurrection and everlasting life on a paradise earth. She looked forward to the fulfilment of Rev. 21:4. "And he [God] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Marlene's services will be held at the convenience of the family, a Celebration of Life is being planned for the future.
