Geraldine E. "Gerry" Wolfanger, age 97, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Noyes Memorial Hospital.
Gerry was born July 3, 1923 in Dansville Hospital, a daughter of Glenn and Katherine (Sick) Weidman. She was a 1941 graduate of Dansville Central High School, a defense plant worker during World War II and a graduate of Culver Academy of Beauty Culture in Rochester. She was also a graduate of the Hornell School of Nursing. She worked at the Wayland Hospital for four years and was a nurse for Dansville Hospital for several years and then as a private duty nurse for several more years. She married Charles Wolfanger on July 27, 1946; he predeceased her on Sept. 7, 2000. Gerry and Charles owned and operated the A-Z Trading Store in Wayland, prior to Charles' death. In addition to her parents and husband, Gerry was also predeceased by a son, David; 5 brothers, Grant, Russell, Howard, Harley & George; and her sister, Elva Kluener.
Gerry was a past member of the Wayland American Legion Women's Auxiliary, the Dansville VFW Auxiliary, she was a Cub Scout Leader, and a member of the Splash Master's Art & Writer's Club in Wayland, the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Perkinsville and the church choir.
Gerry will be remembered for her musical talent; a self-taught pianist, organist and harmonica player; where she performed for several occasions in public and as a soloist at weddings. She has two songs published with KMA Records Co. in Nashville, TN. Gerry was noted for her poetry (over 100 poems); painted over 150 pastels and won several awards for her paintings and doll houses.
Gerry is survived by her sons, Richard (Darlene) Wolfanger of Bradford, PA and Roger (Tammy) Wolfanger of Dansville.
A graveside service will be held 11 am, Monday, January 11, 2021 at St. Peter's Cemetery, Perkinsville.
