Barbara A. (Hillegas) Hanggi of Naples NY passed away at the age of 69 on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 and Penn Yan Manor.
Barbara was born on June 7, 1951 in Monmouth Park NJ to the late Donald & Bernice (Sharp) Hillegas. She was raised primarily in Highland Falls, NY, Barbara proudly called herself an "Army brat". She met her husband while he was stationed at West Point. They married and shortly after moved back to his home town of Naples, NY where they have lived out their days together among family and friends.
Barbara was a Registered Nurse for over 35 years splitting her years of service between Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua and then at the Clifton Springs hospital until she retired in 2017. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, knitting, reading, and decorating for the seasons. Above all, her favorite hobby was her pottery which she took great pride in. She loved to travel and especially looked forward to her annual trip to Florida every March. She enjoyed most of all her time with her family. Early morning trips to the public market, band concerts, school plays, trips to museums, annual art festivals, shopping, theatre, special dinners, movies, etc. She did not really care what the activity was but treasured the quality time.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her eldest brother, Donald Hillegas.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Robert Hanggi; daughters: Rebecca (Paul) Lombardo & Diana (Alan) Burke; granddaughter: McKinley Burke; brothers: Andrew (Marilyn) Hillegas, Robert (Melissa) Hillegas; sisters: Mary Davis, Joan Hillegas & Joy Hillegas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and her feisty little dog, Sammy.
Family & friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at St. Januarius Catholic Church in Naples. The family wishes to extend an invitation to everyone to join them in Celebrating Barbara's life from 12:30pm - 3:30pm at Ontario County Park, Watkins Lodge after Mass on Saturday, June 19, 2021.
