Obituary of Willard D. Campbell

Willard D. "Dale" Campbell, age 93, passed away at Elderwood in Hornell on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. Dale was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on November 27, 1927 to the late Lionel & Addie (Skinner) Campbell. Dale grew up in Coffeyville and followed in his mother's family business by becoming a funeral assistant, he also assisted the local coroner's office. Eventually, Dale moved to Rockport, Texas after some medical issues and worked as a door greeter and the local Walmart. Dale had family in the Prattsburgh NY area whom he visited frequently. Around 2004, Dale moved to Wayland to be closer to his "adopted" family. Though Dale went to mortuary school, archeology was one of his passions. He visited the Mayan ruins in Mexico where he climbed volcanoes. When he was in the service, Dale was stationed in Switzerland and Germany and travelled most of Europe. He was incredibly talented; he loved learning and growing knowledge and it was not uncommon for Dale to casually read an Encyclopedia and mark information he wanted to learn more about. Dale could play the piano, organ, and even the French trumpet while in the Army's Orchestra. He loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends. Dale was a gentleman's gentleman and will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and caregivers at Elderwood. Dale is survived by his adopted family, Shirley & Rick Seager, Madison Seagar, Matthew (Brittney) Seager & Wiatt Ellis-Seager and Grayson Seagar. The family will celebrate Dale's life privately at the Bath National Cemetery on Thursday, January 28, 2021.
