Eloise Mary Harter, age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in Hornell.
Eloise was born on April 13, 1923 in Mt. Morris to the late Fred & Mary (Kemp) Ess. Eloise was a graduate of Wayland Central School. On January 24, 1942, she married DeMyrl M. Harter.
Eloise was a hard worker and started her first job helping her father on the family farm. Before children, she worked at F.A. Owen Publishers Co. in Dansville for a short while. Once she had children and they were a little older, she went to work for Kelly's Nursery, and spent time at Papas Cleaners; she retired from 1st National Bank of Wayland in 1985 as a bookkeeper for 23 ½ years.
Eloise was a member of the Royal Neighbors of Dansville, a member and past treasurer of the Wayland United Methodist Church where she was part of the Women's Group and was a staple in the church family. Eloise was a founding member and leader of the Wayland 4H Club and the Wayland Golden Agers. She enjoyed showing off her tulip bed by the garage in the spring and could knit or sew just about anything; she made Christmas stockings for everyone, knitted sweaters, hats, mittens and even into her 90s, knitted every family member their own scarf. Though Eloise was an accomplished woman, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Eloise was predeceased by her husband DeMyrl in 2011; her brother, Fred Ess in 1989; and her sister, Leona Harter in 2012; and many in-laws.
Eloise is survived by her children: John (Kathleen) Harter of Brockport, Beverley (Frank) Camps of Canisteo & Rosemary (Richard) Nisbet of Wayland; her grandchildren: Glen Harter and Ann Marie, Mark & Jason Camps, and Tabitha Morris & Rebecca Blaker; her great-grandchildren: Victor Harter and Alexandra Morsman, Veronica Morsman, Morgan Barrett, & Lucy Pietrucha and Noah Morris, Emily Blaker & Hannah Blaker; many nieces, nephews, cousins & in-laws.
