Obituary of Virginia C. Loftus

Virginia C. Loftus, age 86, passed away Friday, April 9th, 2021 at Highland Park N&R in Wellsville. Virginia was born on August 22, 1934 in Lebanon, Virginia to the late Grover & Elsie (Meed) Chafin. On February 4, 1956, she married Edward M. Loftus in Falls Church, Virginia; he predeceased her in 2011. Virginia was an educator and a 1955 graduate from James Madison University in Virginia. She was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master and belong to several Bridge Clubs: Hornell, Bath and Geneseo. Virginia ran the Bath Bridge Club for years... she loved cooking and shared her cooking gifts with everybody, especially the Bridge Club Members. In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was also predeceased by 2 children, Nancy Loftus and E. Michael Loftus. Virginia was an avid gardener and shared the fruits of her labor with her community. Her flower gardens were admired by many. She also enjoyed bird watching off her back porch. Virginia is survived by her children: Mari Loftus, Theresa Loftus, Bill Loftus; her 3 grandchildren: Meredith Loftus, Emma Loftus, and Edward Everett; her siblings: Lucrecia Hoffman, Etta Ruth Boughton. Virginia resided for many years in Perry and Wayland, New York. Family & friends are invited to call from 5:30 - 7:30 on Friday, April 16th, 2021 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Silver Lake, Perry, New York. Everyone is reminded that facial coverings, social distancing and no-contact policies will be in place at the funeral home and at the cemetery.
