Obituary of Pamela R. Kemp

Pamela Rose (Butler) Kemp, age 61, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1st after a courageous fight with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family at home. Pam was born November 29th, 1959 in Warsaw to Belva (Merkle) Miller and John "Jack" Butler. She graduated from Dansville HS in 1978 and attended Alfred State on a softball scholarship. There she studied childhood education and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo. Pam taught elementary school at Wayland-Cohocton for 34 years; retiring in 2017. Pam is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Dennis "Rick" Kemp of Dansville; her two loving children: Justin (Morgan) Kemp of Corning and Brittany (Stuart) Blount of Macedon; her grandson, Anderson "Andy" Kemp; her parents, Belva & Leon Miller and John Butler; her siblings: Deanna (Will) Moore and Russell (Michelle) Butler; and her half sibling, Beth (Paul) Zwack. Pam and Rick met in 1979 as teenagers working through college. They went on to marry on October 6th, 1984 at the Presbyterian Church in Dansville. They lived in the house they built together. Over the years, Pam and Rick have traveled to many different destinations with their children and friends. Both recently retired, they planned on traveling the U.S in their new camper this year. Pam loved spending time at their home on Keuka Lake with friends and family. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed shopping and baking, but, her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family. Along with her children, she loved visiting and getting to know her grandson, Andy. Pam was known as the sweetest woman to all who knew her. If you were lucky enough to be one of her students, you've experienced her caring nature. She loved the Buffalo Bills and watching NASCAR with her husband. She always loved watching her children play sports and was very involved as a parent and grandparent. Family and friends are invited to call from 2pm – 6pm on Sunday, June 6th at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland. Pam's funeral service will be held at 12pm on Monday, June 7th at the FourSquare Church, 49 West Ave., Dansville. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family asks donations be made to the Pam Kemp Scholarship Fund at Wayland-Cohocton CSD, Attn: Business Office, 2350 State Route 63, Wayland NY 14572.
