Thelma M. (Kern) Teed, age 93, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 22, 2021 at her home, with her family at her side.
Thelma was born May 9, 1928 in East Springwater, a daughter of Earl & Louise (Redmond) Kern. Thelma attended the Holmes Country School #20 in East Springwater, where her father –in-law was the School Master; she then graduated from Naples Central School in June 1946 with honors. Thelma married Ward Teed on August 9, 1946; he predeceased her on Feb. 26, 2002.
In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was also predeceased by her siblings, Mary Whitcomb, Norval Kern, Betty Akins, Irene Sick, Clinton Kern and Alice Fox; son-in-law, Charles Kota.
Thelma was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church, the Wayland American Legion Auxiliary, the Wayland Historical Society, the Waylandaires choral group and served as past chairman of the Wayland Potato Festival. She also was the bookkeeper for the family plumbing and heating business and she was an Avon Products Representative for over 35 years.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and making her famous potato candy for many Wayland Potato Festivals. She was proud of her family and most enjoyed the holidays and times when her house was filled to the brim with her family and the excitement of the day.
Thelma is survived by her children, Eugene (Nadine) Teed, Marlene (Michael) Monfuletho, Beverly Kota and Wayne (Debra) Teed; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Lisa) Teed, Tamara (Jerrod) Demeurisse, Jennifer (Justin) Goodwin, Leanne Teed (Jeff), Alyssa (Eric) Lanc, Joshua (Tracy) Teed, and Nicole Wilcox; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Friends may call 1-3 pm Saturday, October 30th at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at 3 pm. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery, Wayland.
