Burl W. Mehlenbacher, age 81, passed away peacefully at his Cohocton home early Thursday morning 01/06/2022, where he had spent his final days surrounded by loved ones and family.
Born November 30, 1940, the son of the late Lynn & Irene (Eichorn) Mehlenbacher. Burl resided in the town of Cohocton for the entirety of his life. Burl was a former volunteer fire fighter for Cohocton as well as a former member of the Cohocton Lions Club for many years. He retired from Knight Settlement after decades of work as a cement truck operator. For many years Burl had enjoyed the simple things in life, such as; long joyrides around the town, working in his garden, lawn care of yards around his neighborhood and spending time with his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Burl is predeceased by his first wife, Beverly (Habberfield) Mehlenbacher; second wife, Joyce (Matthews) Mehlenbacher; as well as his brothers: Theodore and Blaine Mehlenbacher.
Burl is survived by his three children Pamela Woodworth (formerly Sawyer) of Hornell, Brenda (Jack) Townsend of Atlanta & Todd (Cheryl) Mehlenbacher of Cohocton; four grandchildren: Cody (Krista) Townsend of Cohocton, Collin (Gypsy) Townsend of Avoca, Erica (Lucas) Sawyer of Hornell and Kyle (Jennifer) Mehlenbacher of Wayland; four great-grandchildren: Colson & Oaklynn Towner and Lyla & Myles Townsend; his sister, Sharron Moss of Avoca and many nieces, nephews & extended family.
At Burl’s request there will be no calling hours; a small graveside service will be held at a later date for family. Any other services decided by the family will be announced at a later date.
The family asks in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Cohocton Valley Ambulance Service or American Cancer Society where Burl had been a long time donor in memory of his late wife Joyce.
