Obituary of Cecelia J. Reigelsperger

Cecelia J. (Gostkowski) Reigelsperger, age 95, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, January 24, 2022, at the Vincent House. Cis was born on September 26, 1926 in Southampton, Long Island, NY to the late Chester & Julia (Weiseniewski) Gostkowski where her parents worked on the estates of the wealthy. When she was ten years old, her father went to Detroit, Michigan as jobs were plentiful; the family soon followed. Cis graduated from Northeastern High School and then attended Harper Hospital Nursing School. She worked in downtown Detroit at JL Hudson's Department Store and 1st National Bank of Detroit. She was working downtown at Hudson's on V-E Day and later on V-J Day during the World War II era where people ran out into the streets to celebrate. She also attended classes at Wayne State. Cis's aunt and uncle had moved from Long Island to Wayland and purchased a farm. Cis came to visit in 1946 and met Gordon Reigelsperger; 12 weeks later, they were married. They lived on the family farm and raised three children. At age 48, Cis returned to nursing school and received her LPN. Her fourteen year nursing career began at Bethesda Hospital and later at Noyes Memorial. Due to health issues, she became a full time study hall monitor at WCCS for nineteen years. She was married for 54 years until the death of her husband who had a stroke ten years earlier. Cis had many passions including: swimming, reading and playing golf. Gordie built Cis two ponds that the family enjoyed many picnics and parties that included Big Band music. Nothing brought more joy to Cis though than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. In addition to her parents and husband, Cis is predeceased by her daughter, Cindy; her grandson, Ryan Reigelsperger; her sister, Anna (Jack) Lock; special aunt, Bert (Stanley) Jalbrzykoski; and many brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Cis is survived by her children: William (Barb), Robert (Nancy), and Cora (Richard) Saxton; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Family & friends are invited to call from 4pm – 7pm on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 28, 2022 at the funeral home (online viewing information below). Cis will be buried next to Gordie at St. Peter's Cemetery in Perkinsville.
