Karl Van De Moortell

Obituary of Karl P. Van De Moortell

Karl P. Van De Moortell, age 85, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022. Karl was born in Sterling Heights Michigan to the late Achiel & Viola (Burg) Van De Moortell. Karl honorably served our country in the US Army. He was a horticulturist his whole life, and the proud co-owner and operator of Van De Moortell Perennial Farm for many years. In his younger years, Karl loved to bowl and scored his first 300 game when he and his wife, Sue, returned from their honeymoon. Karl was interested in the weather, loved animals (he was known to take in stray cats and even feed raccoons by hand), he enjoyed planting and growing flowers and was an avid golfer- Karl shot his first hole-in-one just last year at the Lima Golf & Country Club. Though Karl had many interests, Karl truly enjoyed spending time with his children & grandchildren and being a devoted husband. Karl is survived and will be sorely missed by his wife of 49 years, Susan "Sue" (Perrine) Van De Moortell; his beloved daughters: Kristel Lehmker & Heather (Brian) Kelly; his loving grandchildren: Alan & Sidney Lehmker and Charlotte & Sophia Kelly; his sister, Carolyn (Earl) Fenningdorf; and many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Family and friends are invited to call from 2pm – 4pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the Baird-Moore Funeral Home in Naples where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Burial will be in Van Hoosen Jones Cemetery, Rochester Hills MI. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Lollypop Farm in Karl's memory online at Lollypop.org
