Donna Szelc, age 60, passed away in the early morning hours of April 27th in Prattsburgh, NY surrounded by close family. Her battle with serious health issues in recent years showed her courage in facing life challenges with humor and spirit. Despite the pain, Donna stayed strong until the end.
She grew up in Burlington, NJ where she lived throughout her childhood and early adult years. She then moved to Florida where she spent several years soaking up the sunshine. In 2013 she decided to move to Prattsburgh, NY where she was joined by her daughter and granddaughter, Alyssa and Mia.
From a very young age, she had a strong love for all animals. Donna was a surrogate mom to many hurt baby birds, squirrels and even abandoned eggs. She was able to save a baby squirrel which used to do surprise visits to her bedroom window. Donna was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had a passion for dancing, cooking for family and friends, writing poetry and spending time at the beach with the sand between her toes. She will always be remembered for her sarcastic sense of humor and ability to make people laugh.
Donna is survived by her two daughters, Alyssa and Shana and three loving grandchildren, Mia, Atlas and Cora, her parents, grandmother, sister and brothers. She enjoyed being a grandmother more than anything. Whether interacting in person or through video chat, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them.
Services will only be attended by immediate family. In keeping with her love for the beach and ocean, Donna wishes to spend her eternity among the seas. Her ashes will be spread in the ocean by her daughters at a later time.
This page will remain open and all are welcome and encouraged to post memories and final words to her here.
