Obituary of George Arno Menger

MENGER. George Arno Ossian, George Arno Menger, age 74, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Vincent House (Comfort Care Facility) in Wayland. George was born August 11, 1932 in Germany, a son of Karl W. & Antonia Menger. George came to the United States as an infant and resided in Rochester. He was a 1950 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester. He moved to Ossian with his parents where they owned and operated a 600 acre beef farm and also were involved in the operation of a sawmill in Ossian. On October 10, 1959 he married Jean Mennito; she survives. George enjoyed canoeing, built his own canoe and was a member of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association Chapter #1. He loved tractor pulling competitions and traveling to many competitions with a group known as the Ossian Boys. This group consisted George and his son, Jeff as well as Don Delaney, Dave & Brett Walker. They were very successful bringing home many trophies over the years. Georges last competition was at 70 years old and he brought home yet another 1st place trophy. George is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jean; his children, Toni (Bill) Carr of Canisteo, Amy Menger (Jim Glatz) of Rochester and Jeff (Denise) Menger of Ossian; 4 grandchildren, Erin Carr (Kevin Stohlberg) of Buffalo, Alex & Rian Glatz both of Rochester & Lucas Menger of Ossian; brother-in-law & sisters-in-law, Albert (Betsy) Mennito of Dansville & Fran May (Karl Kerr) of Bath; special friends, Don & Joanne Delaney of Ossian; special cousin, Woodie (Honalora) Zimbrich of Rochester; several nieces, nephews, cousins & many dear friends. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Monday at the Chamberlin Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville, where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling. Burial will be in Ossian Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to the Vincent House, PO Box 566, Wayland, NY 14572 in memory of George Arno Menger.
