Obituary of Joyce Mehlenbacher
Joyce E. Mehlenbacher, age 65, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday May 6, 2008 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Joyce was born October 27, 1942 in Bath, a daughter of Wendell & Viola (Allison) Matthews. She was a graduate of Cohocton High School and attended Brockport College. She worked at Moore-Cottrell in N. Cohocton for many years. She was the manager of the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles in Hornell retiring in 2005. In addition to her parents, Joyce was also predeceased by her first husband James Wagner in 1979 and her brother, Donald Spook Matthews in 2005.
Joyce was a member of the Cohocton United Methodist Church and the Cohocton Sports Boosters. She enjoyed tending flowers, baking, ceramics covered bridges & collecting teddy bears; but most of all she loved spending time with her family & friends.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Burl; her children, Todd (Jen) Wagner of Victor and Tracy (David) Crance of Savona; 2 grandchildren, Ashley Wagner & Travis Wagner; 3 step-children, Pam (Jim) Woodworth of Canisteo, Brenda (Jack) Townsend of N. Cohocton & Todd (Cheryl) Mehlenbacher of Cohocton; 4 step-grandchildren, Erica Sawyer, Cody & Collin Townsend and Kyle Mehlenbacher;
1 sister, Jean (Gene) Bolster of Livonia; 2 brothers, William (Barbara) Matthews of Bath and Richard Walt (Patricia) Matthews of Avoca; several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held 1 pm Saturday. Burial will be in St. Pius V Cemetery, Cohocton.
